THE RETURN OF DRACULA!

WhitefishRadio.com and Alpine Theatre Project bring back the good old days of real radio drama with the return of Dracula! Produced right here in our hometown studios of Whitefish, Montana, this original Mercury Radio Theatre Orson Wells adaptation, stars Alpine Theatre Project’s professional actors Nick Spear, Luke Walrath, Rebecca Spear, Betsi Morrison, and David Ackroyd as Dracula. Complete with chilling sound effects and haunting drama, Dracula will be available on-demand for two weeks beginning Monday, October 26, 2009. The show airs live on Halloween night at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM MST. So turn out the lights and try not to scream!

Late Summer Events in the Flathead

Summer is rapidly drawing to a close. Have you done everything you wanted to do with your family this summer? Are you looking for a few more activities to enjoy during these last few weeks of summer? The Flathead Valley, in Northwest Montana, is still alive and kickin' with numerous summer events. Take a look at what's going on in your area:

Glacier National Park:

August 23rd: "Picnic in the Park" - Have a picnic with your family at Glacier National Park. The Glacier Centennial program will launch its full calendar of activities for the centennial celebration. Live music and cake will be provided. The park's gates are FREE this day. Event locations: Lake McDonald Lodge and Glacier Park Lodge. 11-4 p.m.

Kalispell:

August 19-23rd: Northwest MT Fair at the Flathead Valley Fairgrounds. This year the Fair is "Bustin' Loose" with the PPRCA Rodeo, Indian Relay Races and POW WOW, Pig Wrestling, Team Penning and the Demolition Derby; plus, the carnival rides and petting zoo. There is something for every family member to enjoy!

August 25th: Picnic in the Park. A summer evening concert at Depot Park in Kalispell. This concert features local favorite, Rob Quist and the Great Northern Band. Food and Beverages are available for purchase. Free admission. 7-9 p.m.

August 22nd and August 29th: Farmer's Markets.

Kalispell Center Mall market: 9-12:30 p.m. Fresh veggies, arts & crafts, food vendors.

August 22nd: Race up the Danny On Trail: A Big Mountain Trail Run, 8:00 a.m. How fast can you run up the Danny On Trail??? Challenge yourself! All proceeds go benefit the Glacier Nordic Ski Team. All racers receive a free ride down the chairlift.


August 22nd: Duck Derby 2:30 p.m. at the Whitefish Riverside Park and Baker Ave. Adopt a duck for charity. A benefit for the community. Grand prize $5,000. Join "The Big Fish" for all the fun!


August 29th: Brewfest at Whitefish Mountain Resort. Starts at 3 p.m. 13 breweries. Entry includes 10 free samples from the Northwest best independent breweries. The FREE snowbus will be running to town. $20.00 in advance.

Lakeside:

August 22-23rd: 4th annual Big Sky Antique and Classic Boat Show. Come to Lakeside to view these beautiful boats! Don't forget to stop by the Tamarack Brewery for lunch or dinner. Kids will love the chocolate chip cookie pizza!

Polson:

August 22nd: 4th annual Brewfest on the Lake. Join the fun at KwaTagNuk Resort on their patio starting at 6 p.m. Brews from local breweries. Food from area eateries and dancing to live music. $10 admission fee.

This weekend, July 25 & 26, WhitefishRadio.com is breaking from its regularly scheduled programming to bring you live results direct from the announcers booth at The Event at Rebecca Farm. This World Class Triathlon Equestrian Event is home to the only HSBC and FEI World Cup qualifying event in the U.S., and draws competitors from all over the world. This state-of-the-art and beautifully lanscaped facility just outside of Kalispell brings excitement to spectators of all ages with competition in dressage, cross country and show jumping. There is a trade fair all four days with arts, crafts and a wide variety of food vendors. Admission is free. Rob Quist, known to many as Montana’s Musical Ambassador, and a founding member of the Mission Mountain Wood Band, has joined The Big Fish to bring a new exciting musical show to Montana and the World via the world-wide web. Beginning on March 6, 2008, Rob Quist will be on live every Thursday at 10AM MST at http://www.whitefishradio.com/, and each show will be available on demand the following day. What’s the show all about? Rob Quist describes it this way, “This show is going to be a reflection of the music I’ve played over the course of my career. I’ve really made my musical journey about writing songs about the people of the west and the history of this country and the people that live here, which, to me is infinitely more interesting than writing commercial songs. We’re going to be playing songs from some of the groups I’ve been in, such as the Mission Mountain Wood Band and the Montana Band, as well as other more eclectic groups.” Rob will be inviting many of his musical friends to join him on the show; friends whom he considers to be “some of the greatest musicians and songwriters in America.” He adds, “We also plan to do a lot of jamming on Whitefish Radio, with new songs that are just being born and maybe some that aren’t quite ready for show time yet, but are in the process of being made.”

Watch for our trailer on the parade route down Central Avenue beginning at 3:00PM. David Ackroyd, from Lights! Camera! Ackroyd! and Nick Spear, Montana's Anchorman right here on The Big Fish, will entertain you along with Rebecca Spear, Betsi Morrison and Luke Walrath. We'll have stickers and candy for the kids. Ross Strauser will be announcing the parade with former Prime Minister, Anita Welch from the balcony of the Great Northern Brewery. This duo alone is sure to entertain the crowd. Whitefish Winter Carnival XLIX is in full swing, with the Royalty selected for this year. Congratulations to the new court, King Ullr XLIX, Jerry House; Queen of the Snows, Terri Muraoka; Prime Minister Walt Chauner; Duchess of Lark Lynn Grossman; Harold the Hark Rick Donahue; Prince Frey Anders Hanson, and Princess Freya Jane Hansen. The Big Fish will be making a big splash this Holiday Season, participating in upcoming community events.

Catch WhitefishRadio.com downtown in Whitefish on Friday, Dec. 14, from 5-9PM for the annual Christmas Stroll. Mac Bledsoe, founder of the Parenting With Dignity Program, will be with us during the stroll to autograph his books and DVD's; a perfect gift for parents of all ages. come by and say "hi" to Mac and learn a little more about his wonderful program with easy to use practical advice for raising children.

Also joining us will be our good friends from the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, The Charlotte Edkins Adoption Center, with another great gift idea for the animal lovers on you shopping list. The 2008 Paws and Claws calendars will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going to help the residents at the shelter. As always, the calendars are full of charming photos and heartwarming stories about some of the pets who have been adopted and some who are still living at the shelter awaiting a forever home. Weather permitting, an adoptable furry friend or two will be visiting The Big Fish trailer. Look for us on Main Street between the clock tower and The Village Shop in downtown Whitefish.

Another long anticipated Holiday event is the Glacier Symphony and Chorale's, "Festive Holiday Pops" concert on Saturday, Dec. 15, in Whitefish and Sunday, Dec. 16, in Kalispell. This year's highlight will be "The Snowman" narrated by our very own, Ross Strauser, and the theme song will be performed by Michael Reimer. The symphony will present a variety of works, ranging from Strauss waltzes to contemporary works, followed by the Glacier Chamber Singers who will offer vocal selections and lead a festive audience sing-along of holiday carols. DRACULA ATTACKS THE BIG FISH!

The Alpine Theatre Project and WhitefishRadio.com are bringing Dracula, Bram Stoker's classic Gothic horror tale, to life in a special radio adaptation to be aired exclusively on the internet on Halloween. Based on a 1938 Orson Welles adaptation, the radio production features the stars of the Alpine Theatre Project in various roles with David Ackroyd performing the blood-sucking Count.

This marks the second radio production by the Alpine Theatre Project. Last year they presented Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol live at the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. That production was aired on Montana Public Radio.

"I'm in love with this medium," said ATP Executive Director Luke Walrath. "It's an art form that is slowly making a comeback, and Dracula is a perfect play for it. It's filled with eerie music and terrifying sound effects."

Told mainly through a series of journal entries, Dracula tells the tale of the ageless vampire as he attempts to relocate from Transylvania to Victorian London. The relocation has a terrifying effect on all involved."

"The piece has almost a documentary feel to it at times," said ATP Artistic Director, Betsi Morrison, who also plays Mina Harker in the production. "It creates a truly chilling effect because of that. I like to think of it like a Victorian-era Blair Witch Project."

The production has been recorded and edited at the WhitefishRadio.com studio, helmed by The Big Fish's Ross Strauser who will also be the play's announcer. "One of the reasons we created Whitefishradio.com, was to bring quality entertainment back to radio, and it's a real treat to work with the professionals from Alpine Theatre Project. This is the first of many collaborations planned with ATP," said WhitefishRadio.com owner Ross Strauser.

Unlike traditional radio airings, this production will be available to listeners at any time through WhitefishRadio.com's "On Demand" feature. Listeners will be able to stream the program directly to their computers.

"ATP is committed to reaching out to a larger audience," said Walrath. "We are gaining an national reputation through our regular productions as well as special shows starring our Honorary Board members like John Lithgow and Olympia Dukakis. Broadcasting over the internet is a perfect way to let people all over the world know of what a vibrant community we have here in the Valley."
